The 17 mile Monterey (monterey bike trail)

This Monterey bay bike trail also known as the 17 mile bike ride is rated as one top 100 places to bike in America. You will find mark signs along the way to point you in the right direction. The ride takes you down the Monterey coast as well as inland to overlook the entire Monterey bay. You will pass through Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel.

Due to morning fog, you should try to take the trail during the afternoon, so you can get a clear view.

Along the way of the 17 mile Pebble Beach trail, you will ride along the coast to view the ocean, see beautiful mansions and golf courses, and cycle through touristy spots, including Cannery Row (a very popular spot for shopping, restaurants, hotels and night life) and the Monterey bay aquarium.

Seeing beautifully designed houses and mansions of Pebble Beach are a special treat if you love architecture.

At Seal Point, you will be able to watch seals play. You will also pass by the Lone Cypress Tree standing alone atop the cliff.(a trademarked brand for the Pebble Beach Company). The world famous Lone Cypress Tree is about 250 years old and supported by cables to prevent it from falling.

Although cars ($9 charge, but you can actually get a refund along the way) do have to pay to gain access to certain parts of the 17 mile Monterey ride, bikes are free. The trail is also shared with pedestrians.

The monterey bike trail has been around now for over 100 years (1881), and originally was used to carry hotel guests from what was then called Hotel Del Monte but is now the Naval Postgraduate School. The first to lay eyes by European in 1542 by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo.
