Ruins on the Ocean: Sutro Baths
Fun Activity Info
The Sutro Baths were a public bathhouse built in 1896 by the very wealthy San Francisco mayor, Adolph Sutro.
The huge complex, cost $1 million dollars and was built directly on the beach. It could hold a staggering 25,000people.
As a visitor, you could choose from 7 different swimming pools including salt and fresh water.
Due to the low entrance fees and high operating costs, the Sutro Baths eventually closed.
Today the baths are a marvelous spectacle. Talk a walk along the walls of the bath and visit the nearby cave.
This is a wonderful place for exploration and pictures. Be sure to read up on the history before you go so you can truly appreciate it!
